Property Tax Due Dates are May 10, 2024, and November 12, 2024

Tax bills are mailed once a year typically in late March or early April each year. There is no Fall mailing!

If you do not receive a tax bill by the end of April, contact our office before the due date and request a new tax bill. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility for payment and penalties when delinquent. If payment is made after the tax due dates, contact the Treasurer’s office at 317-745-9220 for payment including penalty.

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

When are property tax bills mailed?
According to IC 6-1.1-22-8(b)(2),” … the county treasurer may mail or transmit the statement…at least fifteen (15) days before the date on which the first installment is due …”.

Typically, Hendricks County tax bills are mailed in late March or early April and are only mailed once a year.

Why did I get my tax bill and not my mortgage company?

By law, the homeowner must receive their tax bill. If you are escrowed, this bill is just for your information only. However, if you become no longer escrowed, you are to pay from the tax bill, you will not receive another bill from us.

Many mortgage companies use a third-party company to request your property tax bill and process your property tax payment from your escrow. Please contact your mortgage company for additional information.

When are my property tax payments due?

According to IC 6-1.1-22-9(a), property taxes are due “…in two (2) equal installments on May 10 and Nov 10…”. The due date may vary due to weekends and holidays. Please refer to the current year tax bill for the correct due date.

How do I know if my mortgage company is going to pay my taxes?

The only sure way to know is to contact your mortgage company. Keep in mind there will be a lag between the time the money is deducted from your escrow and the payment when the payment is finally sent to the Treasurer to post.

Why did I receive a reconstruction drain bill?

The county surveyor is responsible for assessing regulated drains. You may reach that office by calling 317-745-9237.

My property was sold at the county’s tax sale. How do I get it back?

As a property owner, you have a certain period of time in which you can redeem your property. You may contact the county auditor’s office for more information, including the redemption amount of a tax sale. Please call 317-745-9300 for assistance.

Can I make partial payments towards my property tax bill?

The treasurer will accept partial payments. Please keep in mind that acceptance of partial payments does not change the due dates. The spring and fall tax bill amounts must be paid in full by the due dates (typically in May and November). Otherwise, five to ten percent (5% - 10%) penalties will be assessed on any unpaid amount.
